Discover Kumana
One of Sri Lanka's remarkable wilderness experiences — wetlands, forest and birdlife on the island's wild eastern coast.
About Kumana
A wilderness of water, forest and birds
Kumana National Park sits on Sri Lanka's south-eastern coast, bordering Yala's eastern boundary. Its heart is a broad mangrove swamp and a chain of villus and lagoons that draw enormous numbers of water birds, especially during the nesting season.
Beyond the wetlands, dry-zone forest and open plains shelter elephants, spotted deer, buffalo, wild boar, jackals and — very occasionally — the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Sightings are always down to nature, never guaranteed.
